Can’t I send texts to 9-1-1 today?

Most every 9-1-1 center in the USA today doesn’t support SMS/text messaging. The only way to contact them using a phone is through a voice call, whether land-line, mobile or VoIP (Voice over IP).

Why is texting important?

• Someone has broken into your home. You’re hiding in your closet, what would you rather do? Call 9-1-1 or silently text 911?

• You’re hard of hearing or speech impaired. Texting is a perfect solution.
